Rehabilitation Services

Thayer County Health Services (TCHS) Rehabilitation Department is located on the north side of the hospital. The rehab staff, dedicated to the mission of TCHS, works to provide services countywide and throughout the surrounding communities. The rehabilitation department services include physical, occupational, and speech therapies.

Steve Williams, PT, DPT, CCI

Steve joined the Thayer County Health Services rehabilitation staff in July of 2010. He received his Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Clarke University in Dubuque, Iowa. He has been credentialed as an Advanced Clinical Instructor by the APTA since July 2011 and is certified in Dry Needling.

Jensen Wenske, PT, DPT

Jensen joined the TCHS rehabilitation staff in November of 2022. She received her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from the University of Nebraska Medical Center in 2021. She is certified in Dry Needling. She has been the primary physical therapist working with the residents/patients at Blue Valley Lutheran Homes Nursing Home and Courtyard Terrace Assisted Living Facility.

Traci Zelenka, CPTA

Traci has worked in the rehabilitation department of the hospital since 1998. She received her physical therapy assistant diploma in Colby, Kansas and is certified in the state of Nebraska. Traci has been recognized by the American Physical Therapy Association with certification in advance clinical knowledge in the area of orthopedics.

Trev Mumm, PTA

Trev joined the TCHS Rehab team in June 2025. He holds a BSPTA (Bachelors of Physical Therapist Assistant) and has been a licensed Physical Therapist Assistant in Nebraska since 2020, after completing his training through Southeast Community College in Lincoln. In 2024, he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Physical Therapist Assisting. Trev is a proud member of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) and is pursuing his Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) credential. His professional experience includes working in outpatient, skilled care, and home health physical therapy settings, where he has developed a well-rounded background in patient care.

Cambrie Schroder, MAT, LAT, ATC, PTA

Cambrie joined the TCHS Rehab team in October 2025, bringing a strong background in both physical therapy and athletic training. She earned her Associate of Science and Associate of Applied Science in Physical Therapist Assisting from Northeast Community College in 2021. From there, she continued on to the University of Nebraska at Kearney, completing her Bachelor of Exercise Science with a minor in Athletic Training in 2023 and her Master of Athletic Training in 2025. Cambrie is an active member of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) and the National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA). She has additional training in Blood Flow Restriction (BFR), myofascial cupping, athlete and pelvic rehabilitation, and Class IV deep tissue laser therapy. She’s also currently finishing a certification in pre- and post-natal coaching. Cambrie has worked with both college and high school athletes and has spent most of her Physical Therapist Assistant career in outpatient and athletic rehab settings. She’s passionate about helping people move better, feel stronger, and get back to doing what they love.

Abby Walters, MOT, OTR/L

Abby joined the rehabilitation staff in August of 2018. Abby received her Masters in Occupational Therapy from College of Saint Mary’s in Omaha, Nebraska. Abby is certified in interactive Metronome, Physical Agent Modalities and LSVT-BIG. Abby also has completed advanced, specialized training for pelvic floor conditions.

Leah Koss, OTD, OTR/L

Leah joined our rehabilitation team in September 2025. She earned her Occupational Therapy Doctorate from the College of Saint Mary in Omaha, Nebraska, and holds certification in Physical Agent Modalities. Leah has a special interest in working with pediatric patients and enjoys helping children reach their fullest potential.

Shelly Barton, COTA/L

Shelly joined the TCHS rehab department in September 2019. Shelly graduated from the Occupational Therapy Assistant program at Clarkson College in Omaha. She is originally from Hebron and brings over 20 years of Occupational Therapy experience to her position. Shelly is certified in LSVT-BIG for Parkinson’s Disease and other neurological conditions.

Ashley Edelman, M.S., CCC-SLP

Ashley has been apart of the TCHS rehab team since November 2024. After graduation, Ashley spent 3 years working at a critical access hospital treating adults and pediatric patients and 3 years working as the primary speech therapist for children ages Pre-K through 12th grade. She treats patients across their lifespan and enjoys helping adults with memory and swallowing difficulties and assisting children with their communication needs.

Erica Wiedel, RN, BSN

Erica joined Thayer County Health Services in 2020 as a Registered Nurse after earning her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. She brings more than 10 years of experience in acute care, where she worked with a wide variety of patient populations. In 2022, Erica transitioned into the Rehabilitation Department and now serves as the Cardiac Rehab Nurse. She is a proud member of the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR) and is committed to staying current with best practices in cardiovascular patient care.

Penny Befort, BSRT, RRT, Certificate in AARC/AACVPR

Penny joined the rehabiltation staff in January 2022. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Respiratory Therapy from Nebraska Methodist College in Omaha. With 20 years of experience in Respiratory Care, Penny is certified in Pulmonary Rehabiltation by the AARC/AACVPR and has received advanced training in Asthma and COPD education.

Courtney Turan, CNA, Office

Courtney has been a part of Thayer County Health Services since 2008. Before joining TCHS, she worked at a nursing home in Kearney. At Thayer County Health Services, she served as a CNA/Ward Clerk for 14 years. She has now been in her current role in the rehabilitation department since 2022.
